🚨EXCLUSIVE :Anthony Gordon breaks silence on Newcastle contract talks as Liverpool transfer update revealed

admin

Anthony Gordon has revealed he is close to signing a new contract with Newcastle United.    The striker has been heavily linked with a return to Liverpool, having played for the Reds’ youth team before being released at the age of 11.

Gordon then played for Merseyside rivals Everton before making a big move to the North East in January 2023.  His performances for Eddie Howe’s side earned him a call-up to the England squad, where he was included in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad in Germany this summer.

The 23-year-old is expected to move to Anfield this summer after Liverpool completed a ÂŁ75m deal for the winger in June.    Joe Gomez would have moved the other way, in a separate ÂŁ45m transfer, but both deals fell through after the Magpies raised money to meet the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules in other ways.

Gordon now looks set to extend his stay in Newcastle ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime game against Manchester City with the stands at St James’ Park emblazoned with ‘AG [Anthony Gordon] 10’.    The move is a (potential) hint that the club could announce a contract extension.

Asked about it on TNT Sports, he said: “I don’t know. I only heard about it yesterday, so I’m as excited as you are to be honest. It’s the first time I’ve seen it.”

On the prospect of signing a new deal, he added: “Yeah, it’s close, I’m really excited. But we’ll focus on when it comes. I’m really excited about [the game] and I want to get that out of the way first.”
