REPORT :How Evangelos Marinakis felt about the match officials after 1-0 defeat to Fulham

Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 at home to Fulham and the Reds once again had to rue some seriously poor refereeing and VAR decisions.

   Fulham’s only goal came from the penalty spot after Murillo brought down Andreas Pereira shortly after the break.

   Later in the post, Forest were denied a penalty when Josh Smith wasn’t even sent to the screen to look at a potential foul on Anthony Elanga.

   It’s just unbelievable that inconsistencies can be so glaring at the elite level of English football and it’s becoming a joke for Forest supporters.

   Last weekend in Brighton, Morgan Gibbs-White was sent off despite referee Rob Jones suggesting that he had not awarded a free-kick and that the player had played with the ball.

   Once again, however, Forest face some rough decisions and after yesterday, there is likely to be another apology.

   The Forest owner was at the City Ground yesterday to watch as the Reds were once again on the wrong side of some shockers.

   The penalty was harsh to say the least and if it was recommended for review, it is a puzzle that Elanga’s was not.

   That’s no excuse either.    Forest didn’t deserve to win yesterday, but again the game was decided by the referee who saw the game a mile away.

   The Telegraph claims the officials angered Marinakis yesterday as Forest succumbed to their first defeat of the campaign.

   The article also includes a quote from a senior Forest source and it is clear the club are once again unhappy.

   They are said to have said: “The standard of refereeing is destroying the status of the Premier League and damaging its clubs.

   “There seems to be no consistency in VAR decision-making.

   “There is still not enough transparency in the VAR process. The fans are also suffering.

   “VAR is supposed to improve the game for both clubs and fans, but they are failing at the moment.”

   Forest had a chance to put their colors on the mast with VAR

   Of course we support the club with recent decisions but it’s hard to have too much sympathy even as fans of the club as Forest voted to keep VAR in place!

   All Premier League clubs voted in the summer to potentially scrap VAR, but the win was 19-1 for VAR to remain, with Wolves the only club to vote against.

   The Mighty were obviously confident that things would change, but so far it hasn’t been evident in recent games.

   Now Forest will get some sympathy for their whining against VAR in its current form – no matter how incompetent it all seems.

   But Marinakis is clearly not happy again.

   Forest could probably be satisfied with the upcoming international break allowing things to settle down again and Forest to review the season as a whole.
