‘The reality is’ – Sean Dyche outlines Everton demand after first Premier League win

Sean Dyche hailed Everton’s first win of the Premier League season as a “step forward” but stressed his side have more hard work ahead of them.    The Blues ended their long wait for a first league win with a comeback victory inspired by two goals from Dwight McNeil.

   It was a win that lifted Everton into mid-table and eased the pressure on Dyche after a dismal start to the campaign.

   Asked what the three points meant to him, Dyche said: “Well, it just means it’s a step forward, that’s all. The job is never done here, that’s for sure. I’ve said it time and time again, the reality is Now we have to do it again  and win again. That’s the mindset we need to show very quickly and we’ll get stronger until next week and the next game.

   Dyche said his players deserved more with their performances this season and was therefore pleased to have three points to celebrate, but said the demands had been so intense that they would focus on the game against Newcastle United  next week.

   He said: “The truth is it’s a tough, tough league. I think it’s good for the players. I think they’ve earned their due with the previous results because there were a lot of question marks about being able to play in a nervous situation and  let’s look at the game properly as we know we can and find the moments that can win the game.

   “I don’t think we’ve been as far as people think, especially the last few performances. But you have to get things right in both frames and I thought we did that today.”
