BREAKING NEWS :Paul Scholes doubles down on Eddie Howe and England doubts amid Newcastle United trophy questions

Paul Scholes has doubled down on whether Eddie Howe is the right man to be England’s next manager.
   Howe is seen as one of the top contenders to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager, but Scholes does not believe he or Lee Carsley will be the men to lead England in the future.    Carsley is currently caretaker manager of the Three Lions and has overseen back-to-back Nations League victories in his first two games in charge.

   Carsley will lead England in the upcoming matches against Greece and Finland later this month, before ending his interim manager’s spell next month in the return leg against Greece and then the Republic of Ireland.    Last month, Scholes revealed that England should appoint a “big name” manager and he doubled down on that view when speaking about the Overlap fan debate, which has cast doubt on Howe’s trophy haul and whether he would be capable of delivering international silverware  venue:

   “I think the prestige of the job has gone down a bit in England,” Scholes said.    “I don’t think you get me wrong, it’s not wrong to hire someone who has just coached the under-21s, who is a coach and is probably a good coach, I don’t know him, but I think England need a real manager – not someone who has  experience with the U21s and does well at any age group.

   “It’s such an important job that it has to be an experienced manager. Eddie Howe will come into it, I’m sure he will. But then again, Eddie Howe hasn’t been that successful when it comes to winning awards.

   “There’s a brilliant team there with England, an absolutely brilliant team, really talented. I think they need a manager who’s up to it, he’s got to be that kind of character and I don’t think I can imagine Lee Carsley getting England over the line [in the big  games].”

   Howe has previously dismissed speculation linking him with the England job, insisting he is fully focused on Newcastle United.    He said in July: “I really love the club.  I love the fans.  I like where I am in my career.  There is no better place for me.  That’s how I feel.”
