Chris Beesley reacts to what he’s heard about Liverpool move for Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite – ‘Abomination’

Chris Beesley has described the idea of Jarrad Branthwaite swapping Everton for Liverpool as “an abomination” for Toffees fans.

   In his article in the Liverpool Echo [3.  October] one senior Blues journalist claimed on the website that it would be “every Evertonian’s dream” for Branthwaite – nicknamed the “Carlisle Kaiser” – to feature for the club in the first game at Bramley.  -Moore Dock Stadium.

   For that to happen, Branthwaite needs to stay in the blue half of the city for two more transfer windows, and Liverpool are said to be considering poaching established interest from Manchester United [Daily Mail, October 1].

   In response to this article in the Mail, Beesley wrote: “Surely every Evertonian’s dream is for star Jarrad Branthwaite to still turn up in a royal blue shirt when they play their first game at their new stadium next year.

   “But even if ‘The Carlisle Kaiser’ had been sold by then, it would be an abomination in the eyes of many of Goodison Park’s current visitors to think that it had skipped Stanley Park.”

   Everton can’t let Liverpool take Jarrad Branthwaite

   There’s a reason history hardly serves established players representing both sides of Stanley Park for long periods of time, and it’s an idea that most players find inconceivable.

   That’s without considering the possibility of a direct transfer between them, and Branthwaite is Everton’s most prized asset and most important player in the last year.

   His injury problems have rocked Sean Dyche’s side and his return last weekend instantly helped the club to their first Premier League win.

   The Toffees have reaffirmed their stance that he will not be for sale in any cut-price deal, managing to fend off several bids from Man United – whose poor defensive record this season only makes it more likely that they will be snooping around again in January.

   Next summer will be the real test of whether Liverpool are serious about Branthwaite – who will then have two years left on his contract, a precarious position.
