🚨BREAKING NEWS :Brighton rub salt into Tottenham wounds with brutal James Maddison jibe

Brighton had the last laugh against James Maddison after mocking his darts celebration in the comeback win against Tottenham.

Tottenham’s man-of-the-match doubled the north London side’s lead on the south coast after Brennan Johnson’s opener.    After finding the net, Maddison decided to celebrate in trademark style when he took out a television camera and threw a mock dart.

But Spurs conspired to collapse as goals from Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck turned the game on its head.    The final whistle sparked wild celebrations at the Amex Stadium.

And the club’s DJ decided to get in on the post-match antics.    Planet Funk’s Chase The Sun, a song usually played at darts, was played over the club’s sound system after the match, clearly straining Maddison’s celebration.

The Englishman has been using the move to score goals since his time at Leicester and has already explained why he decided on the move.    Speaking in 2022, he said: “The first time I did it was at Newcastle away and it was during the World Cup.

“It was very much a topic of conversation, me and some of the guys;    Jamie Vardy, Luke Thomas and Harvey Barnes, we play darts all the time.    Every away game we pick up the board when we have time to kill and play.    I have a board at home and I practice all the time!”

Sunday’s defeat to Brighton is not the first time the celebration has caused controversy.    During the 2023 North London derby draw, Bukayo Saka made a move after equalizing from the penalty spot and Maddison joked that he would have harsh words with his England counterpart.

He said: “Bukayo and I had a bit of banter and a bit of banter, if you will, on international duty. I’m told he was celebrating the darts – he probably still was when I turned him over for the first goal. … I’ll have a bit  talked to him, yes.”

The darts-themed celebration then gained more attention in February this year after Spurs beat Brentford 3-2.    Bees forward Neal Maupay pretended to throw darts after kicking off the scoring.

Maddison then had some stern words with the Frenchman while Spurs had their own when Brennan Johnson taunted Maupay with his own celebration after turning the game on its head.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Maddison said: “He probably hasn’t scored enough goals for his own celebration in the last few years, so he probably had to copy mine!”

Maupay then posted a brutal response on Instagram.    He said: “I was a little bit ahead of it [the celebration]. It was sad we couldn’t win. More goals and fewer dismissals in my career than James Maddison. Here we go again Monday Bees.”
