Nottingham Forest fans have heard the audio of the incident where Murillo conceded a penalty against Fulham and it won’t make them feel any better.

   Nuno Espirito Santo has had a difficult few weeks with a number of bookings as VAR and refereeing decisions continue to anger those involved at Nottingham Forest.

   The Portuguese coach was sent off for his reaction to Morgan Gibbs-White receiving his marching orders following a second yellow card against Brighton.

   He didn’t end up sitting out the Fulham game though and Fabian Hurzeler also missed out.

   But more controversy followed as two incidents involving Murillo and Anthony Elanga against Fulham raised the temperature at the City Ground.

   Interestingly, the Premier League have now released footage of the Murillo incident, which makes for interesting hearing.

   What VAR told Josh Smith about Murillo’s penalty incident during Nottingham Forest v Fulham

   Murillo stepped on Fulham’s Andreas Pereira’s Achilles without even looking at the ball, resulting in a penalty after a VAR review.

   Referee of the day Josh Smith admitted he was unable to see the incident and called on VAR to step in and advise him.

   The audio has now been released by the Premier League and is a bit frustrating.

   Here’s what official VAR John Brooks originally said when he reviewed the film.

   “Obviously he’s on the back of his Achilles. It’s only if that touch is a penalty given the ball is out of control.

   “The ball will go to him, it’s a complete accident, but he obstructed the opponent.

   “So the question is about that contact. I mean, it’s clear that he’s standing on Achilles’ back.

   “I think he obviously interfered with the opponent and the referee doesn’t have a clear picture of that, so there’s no referee here to make the call.”

   He continues to walk Josh Smith through the conversation and explain what he believes.

   “So, Josh, I’m going to cut him off at touch points, and what happens is that the defender hits the back of the attacker’s Achilles with his cleats, which would be very painful, and the ball comes to him in the drop zone.”

   Nottingham Forest fans will be even angrier

   VAR deemed it a penalty for two reasons: Andreas Pereira was positioned to receive the ball in their eyes and the touch was on Achilles obstructing an opponent.

   That Pereira received the ball is a slight exaggeration as the ball went behind him.    You see him trying to jump back to try to head the ball.

   Of course the contact is clear and unfortunate, but the fact that they then decided not to call for a penalty for the Anthony Elango incident at the other end is crazy.

   Calvin Bassey thwarted Elango by taking his leg earlier to give him a chance to win the ball and Forester had it in his possession.    These are the exact two reasons why VAR decided to award a penalty to Murillo in the first place.
