Adrian Durham has torn into Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his “shocking” performance in England’s defeat to Greece.
The Toffees keeper started between the posts as Lee Carsley’s side were beaten 2-1 at Wembley on Thursday (10 October) and was nowhere near his best as he made several high-profile mistakes.
While the former Sunderland stopper was one of many England players off of the pace, talkSPORT broadcaster Durham was quick to slam Pickford, giving him a one out of 10 in his player ratings.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (11 October) he said: “We’ll start in goal with Jordan Pickford who had one of his worst nights in an England shirt.
“Some shocking decisions from the England number one. Huge error he was lucky to get away with in the first half, possibly an error for a goal that was disallowed for a marginal offside in the second half as well.
“Jordan Pickford, you get a 1/10 and you’re probably lucky to get that.”
What happened to Everton ace Jordan Pickford for England v Greece?
Everton fans have seen Pickford make more than his fair share of errors in Toffees colours, but his display against Greece was one of his worst for both club and country.
Not only was he shaky between the posts, but his distribution was appalling and really put the Three Lions on the back foot. For whatever reason, he looked miles off of the pace despite impressing at Goodison Park in recent weeks.
Hopefully, the clash with Finland on Sunday (13 October) will give the Blues stopper an opportunity to get back to his best before he heads back to Merseyside to join up with the rest of Sean Dyche’s first-team squad.
While the Toffees are finally beginning to put a gap between themselves and the drop zone, they will need the England international to be at his best to avoid relegation this term.
It is not an exaggeration to suggest he is one of the most important players in Dyche’s side
