Kieran Maguire says it will be crucial for Everton to hire a chief executive after the takeover is completed.
The football finance expert claims that having people with experience in the sport will certainly benefit the Friedkin Group.
He cited the examples of Eli Short and Randy Lerner’s troubles at Sunderland and Aston Villa respectively, where both lost their clubs hundreds of millions.
Maguire told TBR (October 14): “Dan Friedkin will be looking to make the right decision as soon as possible if his takeover plan goes through.
“Having people with industry experience on the board will be very beneficial.
“You only have to look at the clubs that American owners have come in and assume that their knowledge of American franchise sports is enough to be successful in football that you can only burn your fingers.
“If you look at Ellis Short at Sunderland and Randy Lerner at Aston Villa, they both lost hundreds of millions.
“Friedkin will want to make sure he appoints the right people. I think the most important thing will be to appoint a chief executive who understands football, the club and the finances.”
Everton need a world-class general manager to take them to the next level
The change in ownership of the Toffees under the Friedkin Group highlights the critical need to appoint a chief executive who is intimately familiar with football’s unique landscape.
It is important for Everton to install a CEO who has a deep understanding of football operations, fan culture and financial management.
This person needs to navigate the club through the competitive environment of the Premier League, manage the transfer market effectively and engage with a passionate fan base – something that Farhad Moshiri has neglected, creating such a huge gap between the fans and the club.
The right appointment can lead the club to stability and success and make smart use of the Friedkin Group’s resources.
Conversely, a misstep in this key role could lead to financial problems and sporting failure, as happened with previous owners.
Maguire is absolutely perfect and this appointment could make or break the Friedkin era at the Blues.
