‘I’m amazed’: Pundit cannot believe how much time Leeds United player spent on the deck

Already on Wednesday, Brenden Aaronson was in action for Mauricio Pochettino’s USA with the Leeds United player, who lasted a full 93 minutes in Mexico.

   The 23-year-old has made a good start back at Leeds after returning to Daniel Farke’s side under a cloud following his loan spell at Union Berlin last term.    Aaronson was one of eight to exercise Victor Orta’s loan clause.

   After the relegation, a season in which Aaronson played a key role with 40 appearances, the American star jumped the gun and went to Germany with Union, where he found himself in the Champions League.

   Another poor season, Aaronson and Union avoided relegation on the final day.    Now back at Leeds, he has started well with two goals and an assist in his nine league games this season.

   Tony Meola shocked by something Brenden Aaronson did for USA

   The actor is known for his slight build and lack of physicality.    Although his work rate is really positive, he is often criticized for not being able to win tackles or defend against opponents under pressure.

   That much was evident this morning when Aaronson was slammed by former USA goalkeeper Tony Meola on the CBS Sports Golazo podcast.    Discussing Aaronson’s performance, Meola gave him a score of 4/10.

   “I would give two guys a no, which is not allowed. One was Musah, I don’t remember him doing anything in the game. I gave Brenden Aaronson a 4,” Meola said of Aaronson.

   “He was on the floor all night so I could give him a no but a four just for his effort. He got three for playing 90 minutes. I’m surprised how much he was on the floor,” he added.

   Aaronson lost 10 tackles and more in the loss to Mexico

   It was a poor performance and to make matters worse, Aaronson is now a doubt for Friday’s game against Sheffield United.    Granted, he played the full 93 minutes and now has less than 60 hours to return in time for the game.

   10/20 fights lost (7 fights lost on the ground, three head kicks lost)

   2/4 of the tackles lost

   1 dribble failed

   10/30 failed passes (2/5 long balls)

   Displaced four times

   Tony Dorigo said Aaronson had put on muscle during his loan spell in Germany and while there have been other occasions when the Leeds ace has shown some combativeness, the same problem continues to recur.

   Aaronson will now be on his way back to England and Aaronson is expected back in Leeds on Thursday before Friday night’s game against Sheffield United.    Whether he’s ready to start remains to be seen, Aaronson lost 10-plus tackles in the loss to Mexico
