‘Ups and downs’ :Asmir Begovic shares on talkSPORT its honest Everton admission after what’s happened

Asmir Begovic admits that the 2024/25 season has been “up and down” for Everton so far due to their slow start.

   The Toffees sit 16th in the Premier League table after picking up five points from their last three games before the international break after losing their first four.

   While Begovic – as back-up goalkeeper – has had little say in the Merseyside side’s performances on the pitch, he believes the team can still deliver more.

   “I think it’s been a bit up and down so far this year,” Begovic said on talkSPORT (October 16).

   “I think when you look at our performances you know sometimes it’s hard to say we don’t have more points because we’ve played incredibly well in some of the games we’ve lost and of course the differences and the things that happen in those games we have to  to fix.

   “Overall our performance level and commitment level was very good, with a bit of luck we could have got more points and obviously we would have been in an even better position

   “There’s a lot of room for optimism and I think we have a really good group of players, it’s a bit of a smaller cast, we’re really quite connected, good characters and we’re looking forward to the season ahead.”

   Everton need to continue their form against Ipswich

   Everton take on newly promoted Ipswich at Portman Road on Saturday (October 19).

   Before Everton experienced something of a pre-international break renaissance, the context of this clash might have looked different and Kieran McKenna’s men might even have been considered favorites by some.

   But with the Toffees in decent form, picking up five points from their last three top-flight games, the tables seem to have turned – especially given that Ipswich beat West Ham last time out.

   The likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have been two of the brightest sparks in Sean Dyche’s side and the 53-year-old will no doubt turn to both to lead the way and take all three points from home.

   If they can do that and other results go their way, Everton could be five points clear of the relegation zone and level on points with Manchester United.

   Only time will tell if the Toffees will continue their unbeaten run but one thing is for sure, there has not been a better time to take on the Tractor Boys.
