Former Everton academy graduate wins his third trophy in five years after leaving for £4m

Everton have a rich history of developing talent from their academy.

   Wayne Rooney is certainly a notable example, but Harrison Armstrong looks set to be the next gem to emerge from Everton’s youth ranks.

   Armstrong has been linked with a loan move to Barrow after impressing in the under-21s and spells with Sean Dyche.

   Dyche has predicted a big future for the 17-year-old midfielder at the football club, so they may decide to reject any interest in his signature this January transfer window.

   But for every academy success story, there are always examples of talented players who just couldn’t make it to Goodison Park.

   But they can often carve out great careers elsewhere, and that’s certainly the case for Tyias Browning.

   Tyias Browning won another championship

   Everton approved the sale of promising academy player Tyias Browning at the start of 2019 after he struggled to break into the first team – making just nine senior appearances for the club.

   Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande paid £4m to sign him and he went on to make over 60 appearances for the club, winning the league title in his first season.

   Browning switched to SH Port in 2022 and added a second and third title to his trophy cabinet.

   The now 30-year-old is also a regular for the Chinese national team and has made 31 appearances and scored one goal.

   Antonee Robinson, another former Everton academy gem who is doing well elsewhere

   Antonee Robinson is another example of an academy player who was let go by Everton and is flourishing elsewhere.

   The Toffees allowed Robinson to join Wigan Athletic on a permanent deal in 2019 and since then he has been on the rise to become one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

   Now 27, the Fulham regular has amassed nearly half a century of caps for the US national team.
