Report: Nottingham Forest make first move to sign exciting player mentored by Harry Kane

Nottingham Forest are already looking forward to the January transfer window in a few months.

   The Reds enjoyed a good change of strategy in the transfer market in the summer, prioritizing quality over quantity.

   Several pundits and journalists were forced to resign after lazy pre-season predictions based on Forest’s recruitment.

   The Daily Mail’s Ian Ladyman has claimed he has changed his mind about Forest after initially singling out the club for their lack of a plan when it comes to summer signings.

   Elsewhere, Sam Matterface has also reversed his early season predictions that Forest face another relegation battle.

   Forest are currently third in the Premier League and it now looks like the club will target another tier of players when the window reopens.

   Nottingham Forest open talks with Mathys Tel

   Forest were desperate to sign a new striker during the January transfer window.

   Santiago Gimenez turned down Forest and Eddie Nketiah decided to join Crystal Palace after talks with Oliver Glasner.

   Now it seems that a new striker isn’t necessarily the main priority in January – Chris Wood has scored eight goals so far this season.

   Forest have made contact with Bayern Munich to sign talented winger Mathys Tel, according to Florian Plettenberg.

   It is claimed that the winger has no plans to leave the Bavarian giants this winter, but clubs are keeping an eye on if anything changes.

   Forest will face competition for his services if they allow him to leave either on loan or permanently, with Werder Bremen also keen.

   The 19-year-old was signed by Bayern in 2022 from Rennes and has been trying to force his way into the Munich clash ever since.

   Tel has made seven appearances so far this season and only one of those appearances has come as a starter in the Bundesliga.

   In total, the teenager has scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 76 games for his current club.

   What Harry Kane said about Forest-linked Mathys Tel

   Kane has spoken of how much he values Telo since signing for Bayern in the summer of 2023.

   The England captain and record goalscorer is making waves in Munich as he hopes to win his first trophy of the season.

   He is a big fan of Tel and the Bavarian Football Network claims he was a “mentor” to the talented youngster.

   Kane added: “He’s started the season really well. I like the way he’s been training. He’s always trying and he’s totally committed. He’s made a difference every time he’s come on and he’s got a lot of confidence. We’re going to need all our players here in the season.”

   Nottingham Forest’s current wide options

   At the moment it is Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga who have the Forest places outside.

   Hudson-Odoi has played twice this season – against Liverpool and West Ham – while Elanga is still waiting for his first goal.

   In the summer, the Reds also signed contracts with players who will be competition for both players in the summer.

   Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa have had useful effects off the bench and perhaps Tel would complement the current options.

   Forest met with interest from Newcastle on Elanga on deadline day and Tel could be considered as an option if the Magpies are promoted in January.
