International media give ‘worrying’ verdict on Leicester city Star performance, Leicester City fans will agree

Leicester City defender Wout Faes was in action for Belgium on Thursday as they clashed against Italy in the Nations League.

Leicester entered the international break at the right time, as the Foxes had pieced together a four-match winless run in all competitions.

The fans were calling for Steve Cooper to be sacked after the latest defeat to Manchester United, and that is understandable given they’re only three points above 18th place Crystal Palace.

One player who hasn’t been in the best form for his club is Wout Faes, who could push to leave Leicester in the January transfer window.

Faes has shown glimpses of his quality defending under Cooper but he also tends to throw away his good work by making a mistake, and that was evident for his country.

Belgium faced off against Italy on Thursday night needing a win to avoid entering the Nations League relegation play-offs.

The Red Devils drew against the Italians in October, as Faes produced a shaky performance for Belgium, and he wasn’t much better this time around.

Domenico Tedesco’s men were beaten 1-0 thanks to Sandro Tonali’s 11th-minute strike, cementing them in third position in the Nations League, while Faes played the full 90 minutes in a back five.

Following this disappointing result, the Belgian media were somewhat damning of his performance, as Walfoot labelled the Leicester man ‘worrying’, while handing him a 4.5/10 rating.

They wrote: “How can a player exude so much confidence at times, then be so worrying at others? Faes was quite solid in the first period, even if a big mistake was saved by an offside, then from time to time did anything in the second. It’s hard to imagine him passing a level.”

Voetbal Primeur shared a similar assessment of Faes, handing him a 5/10 rating and writing: “The really big mistakes were not made, but the Italians – with a few moments – hardly posed a big danger either. Also managed to provide danger in the final and hit the post, but he did not score.”

Leicester City should cash in on Faes

Faes is an important player for Leicester and he’s played every single Premier League this term for Cooper’s side.

That said, his capacity to make errors at crucial moments could cost the Foxes dearly in the battle for survival, and they should perhaps cash in on the Belgium international.

Juventus scouts watched Faes against Italy last month, and that is a potential destination where the Leicester star could thrive.

The Italian first division is notoriously played at a slower pace and he wouldn’t be put under as much pressure in defence.

It’s been proven that defenders who have struggled in the Premier League such as former Man United star Chris Smalling have often flourished in the Serie A, with the Englishman starring at Roma for five years.

Faes career could follow a similar narrative and depending on how the season plays out, they could cash in on the 26-year-old next summer.
