‘Doesn’t contribute loads’: Leeds United told player signed by Daniel Farke ‘isn’t great on the eye’

Leeds United’s attack has been unusually clinical for much of the league campaign under Daniel Farke this season, but they have still failed to score in four of their 15 league games.

Joel Piroe has six goals, Brenden Aaronson four, Largie Ramazani and Pascal Striuijk both three, and many have scored twice, such as Dan James, Mateo Joseph, Jayden Bogle and Wilfried Gnonto.

But already this season there have been games where Leeds have dominated without even feeling like they were going to make a breakthrough.    Millwall was one of those nights when the Lions stopped Leeds at The Den.

Piroe is Daniel Farke’s main man at the moment, with the Dutchman seemingly far more effective in front of goal than Joseph.    Farke even said that Piroe is the best finisher in the championship.

Parkin himself was not exactly impressed with Joel Piroe

Of course, there are times when Piroe disappears in matches.    It’s hard to remember a time when Piroe actually made an effort at Millwall and was last benched against QPR.

Speaking to the Championship Check-In Show, former Football League striker and Swindon Town icon Sam Parkin said Piroe doesn’t offer much to Leeds, while Joseph is a more versatile package.

“Piroe, obviously we know he’s a brilliant 18-yard player but he’s not that pleasing to the eye, is he? He doesn’t contribute much; I think Joseph is a bit more versatile,” Parkin summed up at Piraeus.

They compared the championship statistics of Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph

This is difficult.    There is no doubt that Joseph is ready to fight more against the central defenders and work to keep both and play others.   Dan James said his assist against Sheffield Wednesday was “brilliant”.

Piroe is much more clinical in the box, but needs others to create that opportunity for him, while Joseph can do it himself, magic from scratch, but he may not have the clinical edge of Piroe.

It is likely that Farke will alternate between Joseph and Piroe during the season, as one thing is certain, the German will not change his formation unless forced to.
