Leeds emerge as potential destination for Championship star with five goals already this season – journalist

Leeds United and Burnley are among the teams fighting for automatic promotion from the Championship, but off the pitch the Whites are looking for one of their star players.

   Leeds are currently third in the table, two points behind Sunderland and Sheffield United in first and second, with Burnley a few points further back in fourth.

   It already looks like January will be an important month for every team in the top flight, although Leeds’ plans for the window will depend on their results over Christmas.

   Number 10 was a position that Daniel Farke wanted to tackle in the summer, and having failed to do so, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him return to it in January.

   Meanwhile, Burnley have scored just nine goals in their last 13 games, so some attacking prowess will certainly be on their agenda when the window opens.

   Leeds are looking at Burnley star Josh Brownhill

   Burnley’s top scorer this season is actually in midfield, with Josh Brownhill the only player to score more than two goals with five goals.

   However, Brownhill is out of contract at Turf Moor at the end of the season and exclusively to LeedsUnited.News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey says Leeds are among the clubs interested in a free transfer.

   Premier League sides are also interested in Brownhill, as well as Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers, meaning Leeds have a lot of work to do if they want to seal a deal across the border.

   Indeed, Leeds’ chances of getting Brownhill depend entirely on them getting promoted, says Bailey.

   He said: “Josh Brownhill is a player that Leeds have liked for a long time and the fact that he is out of contract next summer is well known. Brownhill is having a great season in the Championship and would be really interesting for Leeds going forward.

   “Leeds know that the only way they would be in talks is if they were promoted, which could count against them as foreign clubs, including Celtic and Rangers, could agree a pre-contract before Leeds have the chance to submit an official  offer.”

   Brownhill has been on Leeds’ radar since Jesse Marsch

   As Bailey mentioned, Brownhill is a player Leeds have admired for a number of years, with interest from six years ago.

   However, Leeds’ most concrete interest in Brownhill did not emerge until two years ago under Jesse Marsch, weeks after the Clarets were beaten for survival.

   Brownhill ended up staying with Burnley that summer and helped them gain promotion back to the Premier League, but he faces a big stay or move decision in the coming months.
