“One of the favourites” – Guillem Balague says Leicester could now appoint 41-year-old “genius”

Leicester City continue to be linked with new managers after sacking Steve Cooper at the weekend – and West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan is the latest hot prospect to move to the King Power Stadium.

Cooper was given the boot just a day after Leicester’s 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, having won just two of his first 12 top-flight games.    Despite the Foxes keeping their heads slightly above water in the relegation battle throughout the campaign, fans were unenthusiastic about East Midlands football on offer, meaning he failed to win their support – with the new boss keen to  we come and reverse the trend.    And he saw Corberan linked up after being praised for his good work in the Championship.

A post on X (formerly Twitter) by Spain pundit Guillem Balague says Corberan is one of the favorites to take over for Cooper at Leicester after the latter was sacked on Sunday night, with the Foxes picking up just 10 points from their opening 12 games, if he sits out  relegation zones.    He posted:

“Carlos Corberan is one of the favorites to take over as head coach of #LCFC.”

Ruud Van Nistelrooy and David Moyes were previously linked on Sunday afternoon, but Corberan’s impressive performances at Huddersfield Town and West Brom saw the 41-year-old become one of the best managers in the Championship, and Leicester could benefit from his “brilliant”  tactical skill.

With both wins coming either side of the international break, it means Leicester have gone four games without a win and secured games throughout the campaign – and with a tough run of games to come, the new boss will need to give the fans reassurance and  confidence as they head off any immediate threat of relegation – especially as they are just one point behind Ipswich Town in 18th, which would eventually see them relegated to the Championship at the first question.
