Front page news as player on his way back to Brighton – Everything has gone wrong

Loaning players to Sevilla always comes with a big caveat and clubs should be aware of what has happened at the Spanish club over the years.

Lenders are often dismissed as pieces of meat, and the ones that do well right away are not even as highly regarded as you might expect.

On the face of it, and without this knowledge, sending Valentín Barco from Brighton & Hove Albion to Sevilla on loan wouldn’t seem like such a bad idea, but it worked out horribly for everyone involved.

Wednesday’s edition of Estadio Deportiva, Sevilla’s local sports newspaper, featured the Brighton-owned player on the front page.

His time in La Liga is said to be “almost up” and he will return to Brighton when the January window opens.

The clubs involved are “preparing the ground” for his return to England and it is believed that Brighton could then send him out on loan elsewhere for the second half of this season.

Cope Sevilla are reporting his return as a sure thing, saying Barca’s time on loan has been “terrifying”.
